George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mureş (UMFST) is an emblematic institution of the Romanian national higher education system, which provides academic training in the field of medical and pharmaceutical sciences.

The Faculty of Medicine in English, the youngest administrative structure within the institution which has been founded in 2019, places in the center of its actions the training of the future doctors with skills perfectly adapted to international health systems.

Within the MEDICINE study programs, the courses are conducted in English. The 6 years of studies end with the Graduation Exam, after which the bachelor's degree is obtained and the Doctor-Medic/Physician title is offered.

The postgraduate training of graduates of the Faculty of Medicine in English can be continued by:

UMFST has among its main objectives the initiation of international partnerships and cooperations in order to increase its visibility in the European academic landscape. In this regard, UMFST opened in 2019 a branch in Hamburg, Germany (UNIVERSITY TARGU Mureş MEDICAL CAMPUS HAMBURG / Universitätsmedizin Neumarkt am Mieresch Campus Hamburg - UMCH), which offers ideal conditions for teaching activities related to the study program Medicine, English, Hamburg (MEH).

Through this study program offered to students, and with the successful management of the two campuses from Târgu Mureș and Hamburg, the Faculty of Medicine in English represents a successful model that combines tradition with innovation, personal interactions with maximum exploitation of modern technical facilities and generosity with exigency.

The process of training students during the 6 years of study is synchronized with the final noble goal, it requires a lot of energy and involvement to overcome all the challenges, but the subsequent personal and professional satisfactions are unmatched.

Admission requirements

The admission procedure covers the following stages:

1. assessment of the personal statement submitted.



2. assessment of the applicant’s former activities prior to the submission of the application



3. (high school grades, extracurricular activities). Only the grades in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, obtained during High School will be taken into consideration, according to the grid.
   



4. A Skype interview for each applicant, which will be scheduled and announced in time. The purpose of the interview is the evaluation of the compatibility with the medical profession and the English Proficiency.

Since 2016, an extensive project of curricular reform has been implemented in George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mureş, its main target being a student-centered education and maximum development of the students’ and graduates’ practical and communication skills. This curricular reform strategy has three major components: adapting the curriculum to current standards of medical education, a student-centered teaching system, and students’ unitary assessment within the same undergraduate program.

In partnership with the IBM Corporate Service Corps, UMFST Târgu Mureş has designed an innovative concept entitled the “Smart University”, which aims to develop an integrated plan for the modernization of university IT systems through the development of the existing e-UMFST platform as well as identification and implementation of new artificial intelligence technologies such as Cognitive Computing and Internet of Things associated with Cloud Computing, Digital Storage, Paperless Office, and Software as a Service.

This concept targets optimization of academic management, students’ teaching and assessment strategies as well as access to the virtual world, which represents the future of scientific and academic resources of our university.
